Meme coins have faced intense volatility in the last two weeks. Data from CoinMarketCap shows that the total meme coin market capitalization has fallen below $100 billion, with most of these coins registering double-digit percentage losses in just one week.

At press time, the total meme coin market cap stood at $99 billion after a strong recovery that saw it rise by more than 5% in 24 hours. During this period, trading volumes across the meme coin market surged by 57% to $11 billion.

This recovery comes less than a week before the inauguration of Donald Trump. This event could bode well for most meme coins.

Meme Coins to Watch as Trump Inauguration Draws Near​

Dogecoin (DOGE) could lead the meme coin rally after Trump’s inauguration event. One of the factors that could drive these gains is the Department of Government Efficiency (D.O.G.E) division being co-led by Elon Musk, one of Dogecoin’s top supporters.

Musk has been instrumental in Dogecoin’s price gains over the years. Therefore, as one of Trump’s key supporters and with DOGE being an official government entity, the largest dog-themed meme coin could be set for a parabolic rally.

At press time, DOGE was already showing bullish trends. This is after registering a 6% gain in 24 hours to trade at $0.35.

Shiba Inu (SHIB) also tends to follow Dogecoin’s price movements. The token has posted a 3% gain in 24 hours to trade at $0.0000215. PEPE (PEPE) and FLOKI (FLOKI) had also gained by 2.7% and 4% respectively.

Despite these meme coins showing signs of a strong bullish recovery, some analysts anticipate that the inauguration could be a sell-the-news event. As ZyCrypto reported, BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes had warned of a “vicious” crypto market selloff in 2025 if Trump’s crypto policies take time before they are enacted.

Trump to Host a “Crypto Ball” on Inauguration​

Trump is expected to host a “crypto ball” at his inauguration event, which several industry representatives are expected to attend. This event will also feature leaders across the technology industry.

During his campaign trail last year, Trump announced that he would issue executive crypto policy orders on his first day of office that would help guide the crypto regulatory framework in the US.

As the inauguration event draws near, the crypto community is rife with speculation over its impact on crypto prices and whether the rally witnessed in the weeks after the November elections will happen again.
