I wholeheartedly believe that some people are crunchy moms just to be contrarian. I understand not wanting your kids to eat nothing but processed food and soda pops, and I don't think health and wellness are bad things to aspire for your family. But after seeing the very worst of mom Facebook, it's hard to see crunchy perspective as good faith. I've seen posts where women don't want to take prenatal vitamins because they aren't natural. Rejecting an epidural is one thing, but not taking something that will prevent neural tube defects is just silly. Many moms don't like being told what to do by doctors. It makes them feel like they're incompetent and can't make decisions for themselves, so they do whatever the opposite of what the doctor says to go against the grain. It's sophomoric and foolish, but it makes many of these wild parenting posts make more sense.
