I saw Moana 2 this week, and let me tell y'all…the straight-to-DVD sequel era of the 2000s is back and as middling as ever! It's no surprise that this Moana sequel made as much money as it did at the box office. The Lion King II: Simba's Pride made a ton of money when it was released, but that doesn't make it a good movie! Moana 2 was supposed to be a Disney+ original series, and boy does it show. Using songwriters who aren't Lin-Manuel Miranda didn't help the movie either. But who cares if middling sequels cheapen the Disney brand? Disney has been regurgitating their IPs and selling mediocre versions of them back to us for the past 10 years! Maybe if Snow White flops, they'll finally stop with the live-action stuff, but I'm guessing Frozen 3 will make even more money than our Oceanic non-princess.
