I miss movies starring animals. Maybe it's just because I'm 25 years old and no longer watch kids' movies, but I feel like it's been years since I've seen a new live-action film with a wacky animal leading an ensemble of highly prolific character actors to moderate success at the box office.
I recently watched Mouse Hunt from 1997, starring Nathan Lane, and had a real "They don't make them like this anymore" moment. It's about a pair of brothers who inherit a dilapidated mansion, and the most insurmountable problem they have with it is the presence of a clever mouse. No construction project takes years off their lives more than this singular spectacular rodent. The brothers try to find more and more elaborate ways to eliminate this mouse, but they just can't do it! It's like Home Alone for the animal community (I think this mouse is as smart, if not smarter than Kevin McCallister). Eventually, the boys admit defeat against the mouse and go into the cheese business with him. If you would immediately befriend a mouse in your house instead of going to war with him, these animal memes might be aligned with your tender spirit.
