BML Group, Betsson AB’s subsidiary, faced payment blocking in Finland again on Thursday, 28 November. The court’s decision, though not publicly released.
All banks, payment platforms, and cryptocurrency businesses are required to block payments from Finland to the entities on the list.
A Betsson spokesperson mentioned:
Betsson was first included on the list as a result of a February 2024 ruling by the Helsinki Administrative Court.
In reaction to the verdict, the operator relocated its EU brands, excluding those targeting Sweden and Ireland under the recently created Rizk Nordic Limited.
The court upheld the €2.4 million fine imposed by the police in May 2023 for marketing violations.
The company chose to appeal the decision further, taking the case to the Supreme Administrative Court, the highest administrative appellate court. A fine was issued for illegally targeting mainland Finnish players through marketing campaigns across various channels over a prolonged period.
As a result of the ruling, the company is now required to pay the fine, which had been on hold during the appeals process.
Antti Koivula, Finland legal expert, commented:
The potential impact of the decision on Betsson’s anticipated gaming license application following the market’s liberalization in 2027 is still uncertain. In response to low channelization rates, the government announced last year that it would begin developing a competitive licensing model.

“The Betsson/BML case has officially concluded, with BML set to remain on Finland’s payment blocking list until 19 October 2025.
“This outcome stems from BML’s prolonged unauthorised operations in Finland and its subsequent defeat in the Finnish Supreme Administrative Court.
“While the resolution of this case unfolded as expected, the more intriguing question now is: who will be next to join BML on the blacklist?”
