Some facts are hard to swallow, like… your dog will most likely never speak to you, no matter how hard you want them to. Or that if you're not already, you probably will never be a professional athlete. Or, if you go to bed at a reasonable time, wake up early, and exercise, you'll probably feel better. We know these things somewhere deep in our bodies, but our brains refuse to acknowledge them as truth. Humans can be ruefully optimistic that way. And maybe that's a good thing. We have to believe anything is possible, or we may never strive for new things.
