Dog language may be different from human language, but it's a language nonetheless. If you've ever sat at a dog park and just observed for a while, you'd know this. They have complex social dynamics just like us. There are the leaders, the ones that feel like they own the place, and go around making sure everyone is in check. Then there are the followers, the ones who glom on to the leaders and look for their approval. Then there are the newbies, breaking social conventions and causing chaos. And then there are dogs like my dog, who was a little socially awkward but knew going to the dog park was his chance to interact with other dogs, so he'd sheepishly make a go at it and then come running back to us looking to be congratulated for trying.
Dogs, they're just like us, except that we get to look at memes about them, and that's better.
